SEND

Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND)

At Adswood Primary School we pride ourselves on ensuring that children with SEND are well supported, understood and have access to the whole curriculum. Our highly skilled team effectively identifies SEND and works in co-production with parents and carers to carefully plan provision, support and targeted intervention to enable children to achieve holistically. We use a rigorous graduated response to SEND and work collaboratively with specialist services. The school inclusion team supports parents and carers to navigate complex SEND systems and services. We respectfully advocate for the children and their families to ensure positive shared outcomes for all.

They are committed to improving outcomes for Adswood families and children and work with tenacity to secure improved outcomes/provision for children at Adswood; The school has developed very positive working relationships with a wide range of agencies and professionals, including with myself and my wider team.  This collaboration stretches across many different services, enabling the school to access appropriate support/advice for their children and families.

The school environment is carefully designed to enhance the educational experience for all children especially those with SEND by creating purposeful, productive and calm classrooms and learning spaces. The school inclusion and class teams adapt environments and resources accordingly to cater for a wide range of complex educational needs. Planning is always based on a child centred approach and is innovative and bespoke.

‘Adswood Primary goes above and beyond for the young people, and is an incredibly nurturing and inclusive school. It is clear to see that the staff work really hard, and get to know the pupils on an individual level to ensure that support is effective.’

Relationships are central to the work of the school. Children’s voices are valued and their strengths are celebrated. Children are encouraged to be themselves and staff have high expectations for each child. Children’s inner voice and well-being are nurtured and strengthened through ‘Mindspace’, ‘Adswood Super Powers’ and ‘Zones of Regulation’ which are embedded throughout the whole school.

‘Adswood is a school that puts the wellbeing of its children at the heart of everything that it does. The staff know their children inside out and focus on them as rounded beings, seeking success in all areas of their lives as opposed to just academically.’

Speech and Language Therapist - Team Lead

At Adswood Primary School children with SEND are confident, ambitious learners who demonstrate resilience, independence and kindness. Staff share the belief that additional needs should not be a barrier to learning or access to the curriculum. Research based adaptive teaching ensures that children with SEND enjoy their learning, believe in themselves and achieve well. This is enriched further with the EBA life skills curriculum.

To be so fully immersed in the Adswood school community was an absolute joy and privilege and I was bowled over by the quality of inclusive practice across the school, the dedication of all staff, and the palpable love and care that envelops every child. The Adaptive Teaching practice in Adswood is the gold standard we need all schools to be aiming for! On several occasions, I said - "That's it...that's Adaptive teaching, right there!" I was so impressed!
