Admissions

This section of our website outlines the admission process, a process which is undertaken by Stockport MBC.  Details regarding applications for Nursery, Primary, Secondary and in year transfers can be found here. All school places, including mid year transfers, must be applied for online.

NURSERY ADMISSION
We have a 60 part time place Nursery Class with caring, experienced staff who offer exciting first hand experiences for children.   We also offer 15 hour free entitlement places for children usually in the September before their 4th birthday.

We encourage our children to explore both the internal and external environment and encourage them to challenge themselves, be creative and be confident when encountering new experiences. It is important that we build a close partnership with parents / carers and all the staff are keen to share and celebrate your child’s progress with you.  All Nursery places must be applied for online here.

RECEPTION ADMISSION
Admission to Reception is through Stockport MBC in the autumn term of the previous academic year i.e. the September before your child becomes five.

We have 45 places available for school admission in September 2025 and further details of the admission procedure can be found on the Stockport Council website here.  All admissions to the school  must be completed online, there are no paper copies available.

It is not only children within catchment who are accepted for places at our school. You are asked to express up to six preferences but we’d be very happy if Adswood Primary was at the top of your list!

SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS:
Children have a range of needs, including physical or sensory difficulties, language difficulties and emotional / behavioural difficulties. We always endeavour to meet the needs of individual children and most children find their needs can be met within a mainstream school. Some children, however, may have additional needs which require additional support; for example a learning difficulty or a disability that means they find it harder to learn than other children in their age group.  Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCO) will help you with any concerns during your child’s time at Adswood Primary. If your child has special educational needs you can read more about the admissions process here

IN YEAR TRANSFERS:

If you wish to transfer schools you are welcome to come and view our school but please note that all in-year admissions are handled by the Local Authority. Stockport admissions can be contacted on 0161 217 6028 or via email.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE:

  • You can access the admissions system from most information centres across the Borough (Fred Perry House / Libraries / etc) as well as Children’s Centres, nurseries and GPs surgeries

  • Information (but not application forms) is available from school

  • The Support & Advice Team at the Town Hall are able to provide help on 0161 480 4949 – just ask for help with school admissions

  • Waiting lists to start in Nursery, Reception and Year 7 are  only maintained until 31st December of that academic year. Below is taken from the Local Authority policy:

If a parent is not offered a place at their preferred school, their child’s name will be included in the school’s waiting list. The list will be ordered by the published oversubscription criteria of the school. Waiting lists for Nursery, Reception and Year 7 will be maintained until the 31st December. The normal in-year admissions process will take over and any parents wishing to have their child's name included on the waiting list for the remainder of the academic year will need to re-apply.

Should a vacancy occur in that school before the 31st December, then it will be offered to the parent whose child is at the top of the waiting list. If that parent does not accept the vacancy, it will be offered to the next child on the waiting list. This procedure will be followed until the vacancy is accepted or the waiting list is exhausted.

The waiting lists for all other year groups will be maintained for the full academic year.
